The Jester is one of the most unique classes in Darkest Dungeon 2. He’s a true jack-of-all-trades, able to perform any job while still being an effective damage dealer. However, at level 15 he doesn’t have nearly as many skills as other characters and has no access to some powerful spells for very long before they are nerfed or removed entirely at certain levels.

1. Jester Skills – Darkest Dungeon 2 Razor’s Wit
Razor’s Wit does 3-6 damage, advances the user one rank, and gives the user a dodge token.
Ranks 2-4 are usable.
Ranks 1-3 are the targets (Single Target)
Upgrade to Razor’s Wit Mastery: Increases damage to 4-7 and crit chance to 15%. A combination token is applied.
Review: Razor’s Wit is mostly beneficial for regaining Jester’s position after being thrown back. It’s not horrible as an assault. Jester has three attacks that all give nearly the same amount of damage; unless you explicitly want to move, you should utilize the bleed attack.
2. Darkest Dungeon 2 Jester Skills – Darkening to Black
Fade to Black does 3-6 damage, reduces the user’s rank by one, and blinds the victim.
Ranks 1-3 are usable.
Ranks 1-3 are the targets (Single Target)
Upgrade to Fade to Black Mastery: Increases damage to 4-7 and crit chance to 15%. A combination token is applied to the target.
Review: In my perspective, Razor’s Wit is somewhat more beneficial since you’re more likely to want to travel backwards and because blindness gives you a 50% chance of missing anybody, not just the Jester.
3. Darkest Dungeon 2 Jester Skills – Slice Off
Slice Off inflicts 3-6 damage and bleeds for 3 damage.
Ranks 2-3 are usable.
Ranks 2-3 are the goals (Single Target)
Upgrade to Slice Off Mastery: Increases damage to 4-7 and crit chance to 10%. A vulnerability token is applied.
Review: Of Jester’s three basic talents, Slice Off is the one you’ll utilize the most since it causes the greatest damage. It’s especially better because of the vulnerability it introduces following the mastery upgrade.
4. Darkest Dungeon 2 Jester Skills Battle Ballad
Battle Ballad pushes the target one rank ahead and adds a strength token to the target.
Ranks 2-4 are usable.
Any ally is a target.
Upgrade to Battle Ballad Mastery: Increases the likelihood of getting a crit token and eliminates combo tokens.
Review: Battle Ballad is Jester’s worst ability, in my opinion. Harvest, Slice Off, or one of the position dance talents are nearly usually preferable. A single strength token isn’t worth squandering a turn for.
5. Darkest Dungeon 2 Jester Skills – Awe-inspiring music
If the target has 5 or more stress, Inspiring Tune cures 2 stress. Cooldown for one round.
Ranks 3–4 are usable.
Any ally is a target.
Increases stress heal to 3 and cures horror with the Inspiring Tune Mastery Upgrade.
Review: Not just for Jester’s arsenal, but for your whole party, Inspiring Tune is a must-have talent. You’ll almost certainly treble your chances of having a successful run if you have this talent in your group. Bolster on Man at Arms, the second greatest stress heal, isn’t even close.
6. Jester Skills – Darkest Dungeon 2 Harvest
Harvest inflicts a 2 damage bleed and does 2-4 damage to opponents in ranks 2 and 3.
Ranks 2-3 are usable.
Ranks 2-3 are the goals (Targets All)
Increases damage to 3-4 and bleed damage to 3. Harvest Mastery Upgrade: Increases damage to 3-4 and bleed damage to 3. Gives you a 33% chance to use a combination token.
Harvest is the bread and butter talent for Jester. It does significantly less damage than Slice Off, but delivers the same amount of bleed damage after upgrading, and it strikes two targets. Although it doesn’t cause a lot of damage, a couple strikes from this may significantly soften up the opposition squad. It’s also quite good at eliminating block and dodge tokens.
7. Finale – Jester Skills in Darkest Dungeon 2
Finale inflicts 6–12 damage and knocks the user down three ranks. The user is rendered defenseless and bewildered. With a combo token, does double damage to foes.
Ranks 1-2 are usable.
Ranks 1-4 are the targets (Single Target)
Finale Mastery Upgrade: Increases damage by 10% to 13% and increases crit probability by 20%.
Finale is a powerful spell that is exceptionally tough to set up. You just need to utilize Solo and then Finale. Easy. The difficult aspect is getting your squad to work around the Jester’s requirement to reposition himself in order to perform this assault. Personally, I don’t think it’s worthwhile. Hellion may perform this every other round by cycling between her taunt and her large damage hit if you want a hard hitter.
8. Darkest Dungeon 2 Jester Skills – Solo
Solo advances the user three levels and gives 2x dodge and speed tokens.
Ranks 3–4 are usable.
Self-awareness
Upgrades the dodge tokens to dodge+ tokens with Solo Mastery. A combination token is applied to the target.
Review: Solo is mostly a setup move for Finale and is otherwise quite ineffective. Don’t utilize Solo if you’re not utilizing Finale.
9. Darkest Dungeon 2 Jester Skills – Play Out
Play Out sends the target one rank back and gives them a block token.
Ranks 2-4 are usable.
Any ally is a target.
Upgrades the block token to a block+ token with the Play Out Mastery Upgrade.
Play Out isn’t a really good talent. It’ll come in handy if your backliner is bumped to the front row. You won’t get much use out of it otherwise.
10. Darkest Dungeon 2 Jester Skills Encore
Encore gives an ally a bonus action. It renders the user dizzy and debilitated.
Ranks 3–4 are usable.
Any ally is a target.
Upgraded Encore Mastery: No longer causes weakness.
Encore might be useful when you need to shift your turn to your tank or healer for a particular reason. Dazed is an annoyance, but not a disaster. If you have space in your skill loadout, it’s worth having.
11. Darkest Dungeon 2 Jester Skills – Echoing March
Echoing When an enemy’s turn begins, March pushes them forward 1 rank and then pulls them forward again. Cooldown for one round.
Ranks 3–4 are usable.
Ranks 2-4 are the targets (Single Target)
Upgrade to Echoing March Mastery: Instead of one rank, each draw pushes the target two levels.
Review: Reiterating March’s pull may be really beneficial. It’s not a very impressive talent, but because Inspiring Tune and maybe Harvest are the only true must-haves, Jester has space to personalize his kit.
