The “small nightstand table” is a small, simple nightstand that’s perfect for a bedside table. It has an open shelf and can fit books, magazines, or even your phone.

Given the importance of sleep in everyone’s life, it’s reasonable to assume that the objects on your nightstand are among your most valuable possessions. The objects on your bedside table may reveal a lot about your priorities, from alarm clocks you don’t instantly despise to phone chargers that don’t leave you trapped in one position while browsing.
We clearly have a lot of ideas on what those things should be, considering how enthusiastic we are about sleep over here. Here are some of our favorite nightstand staples that we can’t sleep without.
On our nightstands, we all have a phone charger; I personally use this Anker Qi-certified charging pad. It’s simple, yet it gets the job done without cluttering up my area with additional cables. — Senior commerce editor Chelsea Stone
Dr. Dendy Engelman, my favorite dermatologist, advised that I buy this humidifier a few years ago, and it’s had a constant spot on my bedside ever since. It takes care of germs and pollutants in the air, supercharges healthy, dewy-looking skin, and combats redness and dryness all while I sleep, which is particularly important during the winter months when my skin looks and feels terribly dull and dry. Moreover, unlike other humidifiers that readily develop mold and must be discarded after a year, this one has a special technology that prevents mold from forming, ensuring that it never turns disgusting and that you may keep it indefinitely. With all of these considerations in mind (and more), I can’t recommend this product highly enough! — Stephanie Griffin, a digital content strategist, is a senior member of the team.
I’m not a morning person, as seen by the ten alarms on my phone, so I though using a dawn light could help me get out of bed. Fortunately, it worked. The Dekala Prismatic lamp links to an app through Wi-Fi, allowing you to set it as an alarm. When the time comes, the lamp will switch on, softly waking you up with ambient light. It’s particularly effective in motivating me to open my eyes in the gloomy winter months when the sun rises later. This lamp is not only a joy in the mornings but also when you want some ambiance at night, with a bevy of customizable settings — there are a number of preset color-changing options or you can select a solid color from a color wheel, all of which you can turn on at any time or assign for the alarm light — — Associate beauty editor Sophie Shaw
My Asutra weighted face mask is the most important thing on my nightstand. Because it’s weighted with genuine lavender and flax seed, I adore applying the Asutra mask whenever I need to unwind or calm. It not only feels wonderful on my skin, but it also smells fantastic. When you wish to refresh the scent, you may refill it with the supplied more lavender or, honestly, anything you like. Deputy editor Rosanne Salvatore
My Kindle Oasis and I have been inseparable since I evaluated over a dozen e-readers for Underscored. I really like reading on it before bed since I can easily hold it in one hand and change the screen brightness to avoid disturbing my spouse. I used to have a stack of actual books on my bedside, but now they’re all digitally stored on this ultra-compact gadget. Changes the game. — Copy editor Daniel Toy
When my boyfriend and I adopted a puppy a little over a year ago, we did all we could to make the most of our tiny apartment’s limited space — as every pet parent knows, pet items take up a LOT of valuable room. We eventually settled on Fable’s Kennel, which combines a dog crate, bed, and nightstand into one one. This item appeals to me since it is handcrafted from the best quality light-washed wood and can endure water stains and random scratches from various materials that may be placed on its surface. The acrylic gate is also really fashionable, and I like how simple it is to open and shut (it functions like a garage door). Yet, most significantly, Teddy likes to sleep in his large but comfortable cave, and I enjoy having him so near to us at night. — Stephanie Griffin, a digital content strategist, is a senior member of the team.
For years, I’ve used this every night, and I can’t say enough excellent things about it. My lips get quickly parched if I don’t use this lip balm before going to bed, thus I have it in travel sizes and almost never go to bed without it. I like the smooth, velvety feel, as well as the delectable tastes and the fact that it works. Sometimes items become famous simply because they are excellent. — Hayley Saltzman, social media manager
Amazon has it for $249 $199.
Not for the reason you may expect. I just acquired the Bose Sleepbuds II. My cat is the source of the noise, despite the fact that I live in a very noisy metropolis. These are comfy to wear all night and fully cover her 3 a.m. demands for attention. White noise noises may be used to cover anything that is keeping you awake. “Warm Static” and “Boardwalk” are two of my favorites. — Associate editor Lindsey Smith
My skin dries out a lot in the winter, and nowhere is it more evident than at night while I’m attempting to sleep. Instead of scratching at it for hours and flaking up the bed, I now use Harry’s Dry Skin Relief Body Lotion to calm my skin and help me rest. — Copy editor Daniel Toy
For work, I’m always on my phone and computer, so having a set of blue-light glasses that really function has been a game changer. I’ve had considerably less headaches and am able to see the text on the screen more easily after wearing them for a few months, owing to the +1 magnification mine came with. The transparent frames provide a new appearance for any time of year, but particularly spring and summer. They’re lightweight enough to wear all day. And, despite the fact that I carry them with me everywhere, they’ll always be a fixture on my bedside table, particularly when I go for my phone before bed and wind up on TikTok till 2 a.m. Whoops! — Stephanie Griffin, a digital content strategist, is a senior member of the team.
$18.63 $16.31 at Amazon & $11.99 at Amazon
Keeping a notepad by your bedside is always a smart idea, whether you’re a writer who never knows when inspiration may strike, an artist who likes to doodle before bed, or simply the sort of person who plans their to-dos instead of counting sheep. Because of its excellent quality at a reasonable price, Moleskine has been my go-to notebook brand for over a decade, and Micron archival ink pens combine nicely with the paper. At the very least, you’ll have a place to scribble down information from that strange Robert Pattinson dream you experienced. — Copy editor Daniel Toy
Amazon charges $45 for this item.
I keep a glass of water on my nightstand in case I am thirsty in the middle of the night or when I wake up thirsty. However, I dislike it when the temperature of my water changes from frigid to room temperature. As a result, when I received this Swell water bottle as a present, my sleeping habits significantly improved. I wasn’t waking up to walk to the kitchen for a refill, my water stayed icy all night, and now when I wake up, I can take a wonderful cold drink of water to get me motivated for the day. — Sarai Thompson is the social organizer for the event.
One of the finest buys I’ve ever made is this 10-foot iPhone charger. I have it plugged in in the center of my bed (I know, I’m sick), and the length allows me to twist and turn in any position on the bed without having to unhook it. My favorite feature is that it’s constructed of braided nylon, which means it won’t break as readily as other iPhone chargers I’ve tried, and it charges everything so rapidly. — Senior lifestyle editor Rachel Lubitz
For a long time, I was “that” girl who insisted on bringing the LARGIEST glasses of water she could find to bed, only to never drink it. But I’ve liked using these Made In drinking glasses before night since pledging to drink more water at the start of 2022. They’re not only sleek and modern-looking, but they’re also high-quality and sturdy, and they’re resistant to chipping and don’t shatter easily, in my experience. I’ve had a lot of comments from visitors, and I’ve already persuaded myself to get another pair since I use mine so often. There’s a reason Made In’s website has over 2,000 5-star ratings for these glasses! — Stephanie Griffin, a digital content strategist, is a senior member of the team.
This Rituals by Jing pillow spray has just become a part of my evening wind-down ritual. It includes touches of lavender and wood, giving it a more earthy perfume that is perfect for helping me go asleep at night. — assistant editor Rosanne Salvatore
My bedroom is small, and since I chose a queen-size bed, I don’t have much place for a nightstand. The only item I could find that would fit next to my bed without obstructing a closet door was this little Umbra side table. The design is simple, but I like that it still gives me some additional storage space. — Chelsea Stone, commerce senior editor
If you’re anything like me and like “setting the mood” before night, now is the time to invest in some essential oil. I bought peppermint oil, which is made of 100% premium-grade peppermint oil and is said to keep the body, mind, heart, and soul in harmony while also filling my room with the most energizing and calming minty scent each night. You may use your oil in a variety of ways, like adding it to your body wash, shampoo, or bath water, or using it as a standalone fragrance, but my personal favorite is to put a few drops to the aroma puck on top of my Canopy Humidifier. You’ll always find an essential oil on my bedside, whether it’s peppermint or another of my favorite smells (hello, lavender). — Stephanie Griffin, digital content strategist senior
This pillow mist, which I spritz all over my bed everytime I change the linens, has been a game changer for me. It contains chamomile and bergamot overtones, and I’d use it as a perfume if I didn’t already have one. More times than I can count, I’ve sprayed it on my pillow and soon dropped off to sleep. — Senior lifestyle editor Rachel Lubitz
When I’m having difficulties going asleep, I use this procedure to help me relax and eventually fall asleep. Tata Harper is one of my favorite beauty care lines, but these essential oil treatments are almost as impressive. With this treatment, a little goes a long way, so the $68 bottle lasts a long time. Before night, I roll this on my hands and take a few deep breathes – it miraculously settles me down and prepares me for sleep. — Hayley Saltzman, social media manager
I use gua sha every night, which is why I keep this heart-shaped instrument on my bedside next to me. The jade is very delicate and gorgeous, and it’s so simple to handle when I pour on a lot of oil. I use it to gently slide it over my jawline, forehead, under-eye area, and neck, and I’ve seen a significant change since starting a few months ago at the recommendation of my HeyDay esthetician. — Stephanie Griffin, digital content strategist senior
Hurraw Moon Lip Balm is the holy grail of lip balms for me. Vanilla and chamomile aromas continue the bedtime theme. It’s long-lasting and helps to prevent dry lips. While it’s unlikely to affect my sleep, it’s an important part of my nightly ritual. I really like that it’s organic and vegan, so I feel good about using it. — Associate editor Lindsey Smith
Hatch and Amazon have it for $129.99.
I’d been hunting for an alarm clock that didn’t irritate me every morning, and I’d finally found one. Though this Hatch machine is fantastic for going asleep (you can program certain lights to turn on/off and sound effects to indicate that it’s time to sleep), I particularly *love* the possibilities for the morning alarm. The light slowly comes on, and I have it set to wake me up with very mild birds singing. It’s also become a favorite of mine and my cat. — Senior lifestyle editor Rachel Lubitz
Anything lavender, in my opinion, will assist me in drifting off to a restful night’s sleep. I was apprehensive to pay $19 on a pillow spray, but it does what it says on the tin. I’m not sure what the science is behind it or if it’s simply a placebo effect, but I’ve noticed that spritzing this on my pillow helps me fall asleep faster. — Associate editor Lindsey Smith
I’m pretty much constantly on my phone as a social editor, but I try to put it away for at least a half hour before going to bed. Even if it’s just for 10 minutes before bed, reading a book helps me turn off my thoughts and prevent computer time. I am a huge admirer of Book of the Month novels and have one on my bedside at all times! — Head of social media Hayley Saltzman
I enjoy slathering on lotion before bed, just like every lady in every comedy you’ve ever watched. When my nose recognizes the lavender and coconut aroma of Dove whipped body lotion, I like to assume it signals my brain that it’s time for bed. It maintains my skin supple and smelling lovely in any case. — Associate editor Lindsey Smith
I’ve learned to appreciate the Vitruvi Move Diffuser as a nightstand improvement. The diffuser is sleek, tiny, and best of all, cordless, filling my home with the soothing aroma of essential oils. Vitruvi’s Sleep mix, which contains lavender, frankincense, ylang ylang, chamomile, and vetiver, is my favorite. As I drop off to sleep, the mild and calming aroma provides a spa-like degree of relaxation. I place roughly 15 drops of the oil into the diffuser’s water reservoir, set the timer for eight hours, and soon I’m drifting off to sleep in a fragrant cloud that lasts till the following day. The ability to choose between a four-hour continuous runtime or an eight-hour intermittent cycle, an auto turn-off if the water runs out, a button to control the light level (high, low, or off), and the ability to bring it into any room you want or keep it docked on your nightstand like I do are all great features. — Sophie Shaw, beauty editor associate
Because I live in a tiny apartment, I strive to make each piece of furniture something I’m completely *smitten* with. This is where this nightstand comes in. It comes in a variety of attractive hues, and I chose the mauvey pink tint, which has since traveled with me to three different residences. This table has a modest footprint but a huge impression, featuring a drawer with exactly the proper amount of storage for all my bedtime requirements. — Senior lifestyle editor Rachel Lubitz
Before I hit the hay, I normally finish off my evening skin care regimen with a swipe of lip balm, and I keep the Ilia Lip Wrap on my nightstand for easy access. Because of its nonsticky texture that nourishes with active levels of hyaluronic acid and salicornia, Lip Wrap has become my go-to night balm (sea succulent). Plus, compared to a conventional lip balm, the ceramic tip applicator seems a little more sophisticated. — Sophie Shaw, beauty editor associate
My husband and I were looking for nightstands with storage, but we don’t like the big, bulky ones that take up a lot of room. These Kartell ones are tiny, but with three drawers, they can carry a lot of things! This nightstand houses books, infinite quantities of hand lotion, and approximately 12 different sleep masks, and I adore the way it looks. — Hayley Saltzman, social media manager
