Australian archaeologist and researchers taken hostage in Papua New Guinea

A police operation is underway as an Australian professor and three colleagues have been taken hostage in Papua New Guinea – with a ransom demand being made for their release.

The archaeologist was in a remote area conducting a field study with local researchers and a project manager when they were kidnapped at gunpoint.

The situation comes after a New Zealand pilot was taken hostage over the West Papua border last week.
